Handicrafts of Isfahan
As a really popular city in Iran, Isfahan is the pioneer of art and making handicrafts. Some famous products of this city which are made by hands of skillful master are introduced:
• MinaKari (Enameled): This art is usually done on silver, gold, and copper. The masters hammer the metals to have a shape of a vase, bowl, plate or pitcher. Then a coating will cover the dish and it is put in a furnace will temperature of 600 to 800 degrees centigrade. After that drawings painted by a professional master will be heated to show a great work of art.
• Khatam Kari: A mixture of brass, wood and camel’s bone is used to make special shapes; like stars, on a variety of dishes to make nice desks, chess and backgammon boards, and pen holders.
• Filigree: This handicraft needs silver and copper as main materials. Narrow strips of copper are put next to each other to make a variety of designs, similar to arabesque ones; Then a silver coating covers it to increase its beauty and strength.
• Firoozeh Koobi (Turquoise): In this art, beautiful stones of Firoozeh (Turquoise) are stuck on the surface of a dish made of copper, brass or silver to make a luxurious design. Mirrors, candlesticks and vases are very gorgeous with this work of art.
